Strengths

  • Good research capability
  • Good cavalry and infantry

Weaknesses

  • Economic reliance on having a pool of infantry to produce resources results in a lack of flexibility

With a preponderence set towards technology, research and resource-gathering, the United States is a faction that requires strong strategic flair to use. The United

    • East Anglia will be represented on the basis of harboring the most resourceful region in the mod. An underdog faction, East Anglia was swiftly taken aback by the Viking onslaught and sacked; Considering the time period, in early game a player can thrive and be ready for the coming storm by building their economy and improving their military to the best of their abilities. East Anglia fields one of the most capable economies yet their weak military becomes their downfall. A defensive player may be able to take advantage of their "turtle" abilities as well as trade and come out on top.  Historically, they will be sacked and assimilated into Danelaw. When Jarl Guthrum, a powerful Danish ruler arrived with the Great Summer Army, the Anglians had no chance. In a most interesting story, the Jarl Guthrum settled in East Anglia, and after their devastating blow at Ethandun, Guthrum owed their defeat to the Christian God and was baptized under the grace of his highness King Alfred.

      SOOOOOOO

    • - ALL Danish factions have Berserkirs - the Berserkir was a crucial unit for Norse. - ALL Anglo Saxon factions have Huscarls and all but East-Anglia field longbowmen. - ALL Nordic factions field the Hersir unit and should field the best Navy only competition to Frankia. - ALL Germanic faction have Ridanz, raider cavalry. They used them as raiders and scouts. - ALL Anglo-Saxon Kingoms may call upon their Fyrds (for defense) - Levies from surrounding towns and cities. If possible, differentation of factions' Fyrds' power based on their own power would be good.
    • East Anglia only gets Houscarles and Fyrds?
    • Ubba Ragnarson

I have not yet posted their completed faction, realizing they are the only true remnant of the Angles, I have come to have an interest in pre-conquered East Anglia. I will adjust as such. Those rules are also not definitive just yet.

    • Velvetclaw

They look good and I can play around with Rise of Kings' resources with those.

East Anglia - Defensive faction - Weakest of all Anglo-Saxon Kingdoms. Unique because they were primarily Anglo-settlers and focused on the rich land they had acquired centuries prior which unfortunately didn't last. They were toppled quickly by the Danes and thus gained a powerful foothold in the later time period of our mod. Leaders for English East Anglia: King Aethelweard, KIng Éadmund (the Martyr), King Oswald late Danish Leaders: Jarl Guthrum, Jarl Godwin. (Not sure how this could work, if not then we can leave as is.) -- Best Unit: Earl's Oretmeecg (Heavy Spear Unit), Ibora (Armed merchants/traders/naval traders) Allies: Essex: The East Saxons ally with East Anglia and send aid when they can. They are in fact their gateway to more capable heavy infantry. Essex itself is under Wessex' domain primarily, but they still help the Angles when they can. *Client States (late-game possible feature) -- Strengths/Weaknesses: Strengths: Capable light skirmishers and cavalry. Their strength lies in their possibility to be a naval power;  Land is resourceful and prosperous trade is possible by land and sea for a strong economic power if one could surpass their weak military prowess. Weaknesses**: Weakest Anglo-Saxon military overall, however their light units are capable and they may call upon the Fyrds of their land and the neighboring towns of the Fens, a region to the west of which they claim the peoples within. These are still just Ceorl, peasantry, and thus quantity over quality will be the Angles' game when it comes to military.

How strong was East Anglia's naval traditions?

    • Ubba Ragnarson

They had adequate naval power given their position that they could build it into a rather strong navy I believe. They were more focused on inland but still, anglo-saxons were known to trade with european powers even minor ones

Edited for the historically accurate dual-alliance the East Saxons held with Wessex and East Anglia.

Dutch seem to be the best fit for these guys.
    • Ubba Ragnarson

The problem with giving the Dutch this faction , is the Dutch player has a very good economic boosts and also gets free ships - East Anglia (before Danelaw) was not known for much of either. They traded , and held naval power to a point but not enough I believe to take away such a powerful economic faction. I'd like to use a nation with weaker economic prowess if possible.

Then Dutch bonuses might have to be handed over to the Khazars. But ship bonuses will need to be discarded. Or a Norse faction can take over ssaid ship bonuses, and have us disable or water down that resource gathering ability.
    • rmember - cultural bonuses in rules.x can be disabled.
    • in fact you can simply water the Dutch bonuses down, until only Records & Tallies (Com 1) is available.

  7. These will be re-formatted. The Mogyer confederation is no longer a Rus' vassal, etc. More research was done and Khazaria is finished, with the Mogyer confederation instead being their client state.
